First Post

I am completely new to blogging so this first post is pretty much stream of consciousness. I've decided to start blogging as a way to exercise my writing muscles. I've always had this fantasy of having a novel published and being able to make a living off of writing. Working on my terms in a relaxing environment as opposed to being trapped in a cubical under harsh florescent lighting for 10 hours a day. Except that I have never taken the time to actually write anything.

So the other day my I was having a one on one meeting with my manager (I've just recently begun a new job), and he posed the following question to me:

Where do you see yourself in the next couple years, five years, ten years?

My immediate thought was "hopefully not working here". Luckily I had enough restraint not to say that, but it got me thinking. I know my job is a good job, but I pretty much hate it. I also know that I'm not going to get out of my current unhappy situation until I do something about it (and simply complaining doesn't seem to be working). So here it is, the first step towards my new life in blog form. Supposedly these things can be life changing.

On the off chance someone happens to actually read this - Any inspiring blogging stories out there that might help me to get through the just starting out phase and help me keep at it?
